The ACT Government Bookings and Reservations website (www.bookings.act.gov.au) will be unavailable between 6 am and 1 pm Sunday 26 October 2014 due to system maintenance.
From Monday 13 October 2014, temporary arrangements will be in place to reduce the flow of waste to Mugga Lane landfill while the construction of new landfill cells is being completed at the site. Selected waste contractors will be required to use the West Belconnen Resource Management Centre (RMC) until the new Mugga Lane landfill cells are ready to receive waste in January 2015.
An increase in weekday traffic along Southern Cross Drive is expected while these temporary waste disposal arrangements are in place. Waste contractors using West Belconnen RMC will operate only during normal business hours Monday to Friday, with expected peak activity being 11 am to 1 pm and 3 pm to 5 pm. There is unlikely to be any noticeable noise impacts to nearby residents as a result of increased traffic.
Road safety will be maintained under a traffic management plan that will control the flow of trucks on Parkwood Road and onto Southern Cross Drive. This will include new and temporary signs as well as a reduced speed limit on Parkwood Road.
To preserve residents' safety, the recycling drop off centre located at West Belconnen RMC will be closed from Monday to Friday due to the increased truck movements. It will open on weekends or residents can use one of the other drop-off centres.
Residents' access to the Mugga Lane transfer station, the Mitchell transfer station and any other recycling drop-off centre will also not change.
Similarly, Canberra residents will not experience any change to the collection of household waste.
There is no disruption to green waste disposal operations or to the Green Shed's operations.
