The Australian Tourism Data Warehouse (ATDW) allows industry to maintain control of product information relating to their businesses by providing a facility to profile products through Australia's leading tourism websites to the global market place. The ATDW is a cooperative initiative between Tourism Australia and state and territory tourism organisations.

What is the ATDW?

The Australian Tourism Data Warehouse (ATDW) is a cooperative initiative between Tourism Australia and state and territory tourism organisations. It represents a move towards standardising data management by replacing a range of different formats and systems with a central database of Australian tourism product information.

The ATDW allows industry to maintain control of product information relating to their businesses by providing a facility to profile products through Australia's leading tourism websites to the global market place.

The ATDW is an integrated data storage system used by all levels of industry in all Australian states and territories. It contains details of Australian accommodation, attraction, event, tour, hire and transport products as well as allowing for general destination information. It is used by Tourism Australia, Regional Tourist Organisations and the greater tourism industry to market destinations and their products on the internet.

Distribution of Information

A single point of data entry results in wide product distribution. Tourism Australia obtains all business listings for their web site, australia.com, relating to the Australian Capital Territory and region, from the ATDW. People from a range of different markets, both domestically and internationally, will quickly be able to gain access to a range of concise relevant information.

In addition, access to the ATDW is also available to authorised distributors. Distributors are provided with access to information in ATDW to supplement the content within their own web site. This results in an extremely wide range of product distribution to diverse market places.

Australian Capital Tourism and ATDW

The ATDW is an initiative to standardise the source of tourism based product information. Therefore the ATDW will be the source from which Australian Capital Tourism will update all product information appearing on the consumer website www.visitcanberra.com.au.(External Link)

The same information will then be made available for updating Tourism Australia's web site www.australia.com.(External Link)

The current product database will be made redundant. Australian Capital Tourism will transfer information from the current database to ATDW.

Who can participate?

Listing a product in the ATDW is open to Australian Capital Territory based tourism operators as well as selected regional tourism operators. The ATDW, categorises a tourism operator into one of the following product types:

  • Accommodation: Ranging from tent sites, farm accommodation, bed and breakfast accommodation to 5 Star Hotels.
  • Attraction: Includes museums and national parks. An attraction can be a man made or a natural structure.
  • Event: Events include exhibitions and shows, sporting fixtures, music and annual food and wine festivals. Occur for a defined period.
  • Tour: A tour includes 1/2 day, full and extended tours. Provide organised excursions with a guide.
  • Transport: Includes bus, train and air companies. These are mainly point to point operators who have a timetable and normally don't provide commentary.
