Response from ACTEW - "All Dried Up"
In October 2007, ACTEW responded to the "All Dried Up" report compiled by Sport and Recreation Services (SRS).
In their response, ACTEW signalled their intention is to provide exemptions to 114 venues, nominated in the "All Dried Up", that fall in the following categories;
- Users that require a relatively small amount of potable water;
- Users that require water for health and hygiene requirements;
- National and Internationally recognised venues;
- Identified ‘moratorium’ facilities for a time period to be specified by ACTEW when formally granting the exemptions;
- Alternate strategy by sports (bowls) to reduce the number of greens across all clubs to achieve a 50% cut in greens overall; and
- All Priority 1 listed facilities.
A listing of facilities that fall into these categories can be found in the Facility Audit spreadsheet.
It should be noted that any exemptions proposed as part of ACTEW’s Stage 4 – Tier 1 plan are not in place or final until the relevant stage of water restrictions is declared and ACTEW formally grants the exemptions to the individual venues.
All venue managers and sports have been advised of the outcomes and of the next steps required in the process. Please continue to check this page for further updates.

This document has been compiled to allow sports to get a brief understanding of the costs associated with installing a water tank(plastic or concrete) and the costs involved in trucking water(i.e.from the lower Molonglo catchment area). All costs have been provided on an estimate basis - to allow sports to understand the 'ball park' figures involved in the process. For definite costs sports will need to contact the manufactures/suppliers directly and discuss their individual needs. - ACT Health Fact Sheet on Reuse of Recycled Water (

Grounds with such couch grass will look to be dead during the winter months due to coach being in a dormant state. The grounds will not look aesthetically pleasing but do provide a safe and stable surface to play conventional cool season grass varieties.
