Deakin 2
Deakin District Playing Fields is a large complex that is accessed off Denison Street. Ground 2 is located in Makin Place which runs off Denison Street. The ground has a pavilion with change rooms, canteen and toilets. The ground has a large sealed car park which splits the complex into two halves. On the eastern side of the car park there is a turf cricket wicket with a four-bay cricket practice facility that is kept locked and managed and maintained by the Eastlake Cricket Club. It is one of the clubs’ home grounds. Winter use is predominantly for Touch Football and Hockey.
On the western side of the ground there are nine Touch fields and the ground is the home of the ACT Touch Association. The Association has its headquarters beside the ground. The ground also has two synthetic cricket wickets and is a very popular location for cricket because of its lack of goal posts and all year availability. All of the western side of the ground is floodlit to a standard suitable for competition Touch Football.
Located beside the Touch headquarters is the South Canberra Netball Association club house. The club has a lease over the adjoining 8 all weather courts as well as four grass courts located outside of the clubs perimeter fence. There is additional space for approximately 4 more courts but these are only set up for use when large carnivals are held at Deakin.
