Minister's Physical Activity Challenge

MPAC-CMYK

Welcome to the Minister’s Physical Activity Challenge!

The Minister’s Physical Activity Challenge is a new initiative by the ACT Government to increase the levels of physical activity in children. The aim is to encourage children to be physically active for at least 60 minutes a day.

All schools will be invited to participate with individual classes encouraged to take up the Challenge.

The Minister’s Physical Activity Challenge will run for 10-weeks during terms 2 and 3, commencing on 2 June 2008 and finishing on 22 August 2008. The Challenge will pause for the two weeks of school holidays in July.

There are certificates for students and prizes for schools that meet the minimum requirements for the challenge. Prizes for schools are based on a percentage of classes participating in the Challenge. Depending on the level of involvement, schools can receive up to $800 in sporting equipment. Details of the different levels of achievement and the requirements of students and schools can be found on the following page.

Students participating in the Minister’s Physical Activity Challenge will receive a Challenge Passport to record their daily physical activity time. Schools will receive these in the week prior to the Challenge commencing and should be distributed to students on the first day of the Challenge. The Passport contains a page for each week of the Challenge where students can colour in the time they spend each day in physical activity. It also contains suggestions and weekly tips for tips for increasing physical activity and leading a healthy lifestyle.
