African Fountain Grass 

Purple-Fountain-GrassAfrican Fountain Grass (Pennisetum setaceum) has been found growing the ACT. An invasive weed, it has the potential to spread into natural areas and agricultural land, and cause considerable damage and control costs. 

African Fountain Grass is prohibited for sale in the ACT. It is also a noxious weed in NSW. African Fountain Grass is a large tussock grass. It has numerous plume like seed heads that are mauve in colour and grow between 10 and 25 centimetres long. It can also be mistaken for similar ornamental grasses including other Fountain Grasses, Foxtail Grasses and Mexican Feather Grass.
