The Give a Tree a Drink Campaign

Want to do something special for your street or park tree? Give them a drink!

The then Minister for Territory and Municipal Services John Hargreaves MLA launched the Give a Tree a Drink campaign on 19 December 2007 in Jansz Crescent, Griffith.

Canberra has over 625,000 public trees in streets and parks. That is a lot of public trees! The drought has been impacting on the health of these trees. The ACT Government waters some trees but its a big task. We need help from the Canberra community to save our trees.

Anyone can water public trees..... there is no need to wait. But remember to water only using non-potable water (such as from the bath or shower or rinse cycle of the washing machine) and within current water restrictions.

Young trees may only need 2 or 3 buckets of water twice a week to help them. Older trees may need a bit more water. Pour water slowly around the base of the tree to allow it to soak in and not run off!

Hard copy brochures are available from Canberra Connect Shopfronts, ACT public Libraries or selected plant nurseries. Or download an electronic version of the Give a Tree a Drink brochure (PDF PDF 512Kb).
