Tree Planting Requests on Public Land
Residents may request to have trees planted on nature strips or in parks. Requests are placed on a database for future planting programs, and considered and planted according to:
- the time of year;
- recent weather patterns;
- site conditions and existing infrastructure;
- suitability of tree species;
- existing planting programs; and
- resources available to Parks, Conservation and Lands.
As a result of the ongoing drought conditions, replacement trees are only planted on verges where individual residents have given a commitment to care for the new tree.
The 2012 autumn planting program is now open and potential planting sites are welcomed from the public up to 27 January 2012. Any requests received after 27 January 2012 will be placed on a winter or spring 2012 planting program. Deciduous trees will generally be planted as part of the winter planting program and requests for inclusion on this program must be received by 20 April 2012. Evergreen trees will generally be planted as part of the spring planting program and requests for inclusion in this program must be received by 15 June 2012.
