The temporary use of public land within the ACT
Introduction
Parks Conservation and Lands is responsible for managing the temporary use of unleased Territory land. These uses may include the following activities:
- Nature strip development
- Storage of materials
- Events on territory land
- Campsite bookings
- Placement of commercial waste & charity bins
Nature Strip development
The Nature Strip is the section of land between road edge and urban property boundary. It is common practice for residents to extend their garden into this area. Any person wishing to use the Nature Strip may require a permit. For further details please contact Canberra Connect on ph.13 22 81.
Storage of materials
The storage of materials can mean any object other then a registered vehicle temporarily located in a public place, and may include Skips, construction fencing, signs or table & chairs. Not included are commercial waste and charity bins (described below). Any person wishing place an object within a public place requires a permit. Events on Territory land
There are many urban parks and conservation reserves within the ACT. Any person wishing to use these areas for an event such as large social functions, organised recreation or community activities, will require a permit. For further details please contact Canberra Connect on ph.13 22 81.

Placement of commercial waste & charity bins

National Land including
All National land within the Parliamentary Triangle, Aspen Island (Carillion), Commonwealth Park, Federation Mall, Kings Park, Lawns of Old Parliament House, Lake Burley Griffin and Rose Garden are managed by the National Capital Authority.
