The Civic Accessibility Study

The Civic Accessibility Study was commissioned in 2001 to determine how access to public places in the City centre could be improved. The study consists of the following four parts:

  • Study Report
  • Access Audit
  • Access Guidelines
  • Action Plan

The Access Guidelines may be viewed by following the prompt below. This part of the study was formulated to assist designers and authorities who are responsible for developing public place infrastructure. Best practice procedures and requirements for accessibility under the Building Code of Australia and the Australian Standards are given in the guidelines. Illustrations of appropriately designed spaces are included to show how design principles for accessibility can be sucessfully applied.

Please contact Canberra Connect on telephone 13 22 81 for other parts of the study.

The Guidelines were developed for Civic but are applicable to the design of other urban areas.

The document was reviewed and updated in 2004.
