Eddison Park Master Plan Community Consultation

Consultation with the community will be an important input to the Eddison Park Master Plan.

The purpose of the consultations is to enable all interested individuals and groups in the community to have an opportunity to make an effective contribution to the development of the master plan and to ensure that their needs are understood.

The objectives of the consultations are to:

  • engage all stakeholders with an interest in the use of Eddison Park.
  • identify community attitudes towards Eddison Park.
  • identify ways to improve usage and safety.
  • test alternative approaches/planning options with the community.

The consultations will be undertaken in two stages. The first stage will obtain community views about the current usage and operation of Eddison Park and identify community needs and priorities in relation to recreational activities including children’s play. The second stage will consider alternative options for the future development of the Park.

Each stage will include a master plan workshop and a community information display as well as consultations with government agencies.

Master plan workshop participants will represent a wide cross-section of interests including young people, older people and people with a disability, recreation and sporting groups, community organisations, children’s services and activities in the vicinity of the Park.

The community information displays will be held at the Woden Plaza. If you have an interest in Eddison Park, you are invited to visit the display and talk with the consultants. You will also be able to complete a feedback form.

Feedback from the consultations will be posted on the webpage once it is available.

Stage 1

The Stage 1 community information display was held on Saturday 3 May 2008 from 10 am to 2 pm on the Upper Ground Level, opposite ‘House’ at Westfield Woden Plaza.

The master plan workshop was held on Thursday 8 May 2008.

Stage 2

The Stage 2 community information display was held on Saturday 9 August 2008 from 10 am to 2 pm on the Upper Ground Level, opposite ‘My House’ at Westfield Woden Plaza to present the draft master plan document.

The display was staffed by four representatives from the project team including TAMS, DSB and Purdons. About 80-100 people visited the display and talked to staff.

The overwhelming response from the public was very positive.

Key supportive comments included: re-establishment of pond using recycled waster; proposed network of pathways; new children play equipment; connection to cemetery; and extra parking and BBQ facilities (near the cemetery entrance).

Suggested improvements:

  • Need irrigation of the main park area
  • Widened footpath from Justinia Street to Woden East for commuter cycles
  • Larger skate park
  • Lighting for after dark use of the park
  • New bicycle path along the east side of the park adjacent to Yamba drive, and better connectivity of park to the trunk bicycle network
  • Better connectivity with the town centre
  • Wider opening for public access between Little Athletics and the cemetery at the eastern end of the park
  • Emphasise linkages between the park and surrounding open space
  • Keep the park open and safe

You can still make a comment if you were unable to attend the community information display.
Submissions for feedback for Stage 2 close 22 August 2008.
