Gudgenby Ready-Cut Cottage Residency

The Gudgenby Ready-Cut Cottage Residency is a pilot project presented by Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre  in association with Parks, Conservation and Lands, and made possible with funds from the ACT Natural Resources Management Council.

Based upon ideas of interpretation, this project highlights the possibilities of interpretation and interaction drawing together the cultural dialogues of environment, heritage and the arts.

Gudgenby_Ready-Cut_Cottage_Residency_2MRGudgenby Ready-Cut Cottage is an example of early prefabricated (ready-cut) kit homes made by George Hudson Ltd. of Sydney. The Hudson ready-cut kit home was purchased by A W Bootes and constructed in the Gudgenby Valley in 1927. It is an important local example of early prefabricated design, construction and techniques and provides a glimpse into the early European pastoralists lifestyle. Gudgenby Ready-Cut Cottage was restored by the Kosciuszko Huts Association  with assistance from Namadgi National Park staff and an ACT Government Heritage Grant in 2005.
