Parks Week 2008

Help us celebrate Parks Week!

11–19 October 2008

Parks Week 2008 Program ( PDF 107Kb)
Parks Week at a glance ( PDF 56Kb)

Join us across Canberra’s beautiful parks for plenty of fun and informative activities. You will be able to ‘come and try’ with orienteering, disc golf and tree planting. There will be lots of great walks to explore the magnificent and sometimes intriguing scenery Canberra has to offer, including bird watching and orchid walks.

If art is more your scene then you can visit a photographic exhibition at Namadgi. For those looking for a kick start to fitness you can try some of the 45 minute morning walks with the Heart Foundation in a different park each day. The more serious walker might like to try a longer walk, with ‘Walking for Pleasure’, around some of the beautiful areas in Canberra’s Nature Parks.

Parks Week commences at Floriade with a display on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 October in the ActewAGL Look ‘n’ Learn Marquee. The display will highlight the value of our parks, plus there will be the opportunity to meet our Rangers and Wildlife Officers with their special friends. They are on stage at 10am to 11am on both days.

Parks Week is a celebration of the value of parks and the role they play in our community. To help buffer climate change you could try tree planting at Yarralumla Creek or to improve your mental health join us outdoors for some of these community activities.
If you are interested in contributing to Parks Week please email Alexandra Drake as soon as possible.

Parks Week Party in the Park

To celebrate the end of another successful Parks Week, join us for a fabulous Party in the Park at Telopea Park from 12.30pm to 3.00pm on Sunday 19 October 2008.

There will be live music and entertainment to enjoy, so sit back and relax. If you are after something more active try the free activities with games, jumping castle, waterbug watch and more. There will be displays from community and environmental groups to engage you.

Food and drink will be available for purchase.
