TravelSmart

What is TravelSmart?

TravelSmart is about reducing the distance we drive in our cars. It encourages use of healthier, more sustainable transport choices including walking, cycling and public transport. TravelSmart also encourages smart ideas for avoiding car travel like working from home and planning or doing several errands in a single trip instead of making separate journeys.

Benefits of TravelSmart

TravelSmart has lots of benefits. For example, it can help solve some of the frustrations of getting around by car, save you money, improve your health and fitness, give you more time with your families and friends. It also helps the environment.

TravelSmart programs in the ACT

The ACT Government has conducted several TravelSmart programs:

  • Commuters and workplaces programs which targeted workplaces in Woden and Civic; and
  • Schools program (Walking School Bus).
  • “Way to Go”, conducted in 2002, which targeted workplaces and households in Woden;
  • “Households on the Move”, completed in 2004, which targeted households in the Belconnen district; and
  • TravelSmart Belconnen, completed in April 2007, targeted 11,000 households in north and west Belconnen.
