Brief project background
The Clarrie Hermes Drive extension (CHDE) to the Barton Highway is one of the major project identified for construction in the ACT Government Capital Works program.
The project will provide another access/egress point to West Gungahlin to cater for projected increased traffic volumes generated by new suburbs and reduce current congestion on local road network in the suburb of Nicholls. The project includes the construction of Clarrie Hermes Drive between the Barton Highway and Kelleway Avenue.
The existing ‘T’ intersection of the Barton Highway and Kuringa Drive will be upgraded to a four way intersection to facilitate the additional new Clarrie Hermes Drive intersection leg.
Clarrie Hermes Drive will continue from this intersection to the north west behind the Harcourt Hill reservoir and connect to the existing section of Clarrie Hermes Drive at its intersection with Overall Avenue and Kelleway Avenue which when completed will form a four way roundabout.
Duration: Approximately 18 months.
Budget: $21 million
