Taxi accreditation
The Road Transport (Public Passenger Services) Act 2001
and regulations made under it permit the Road Transport Authority to accredit a Taxi Network Provider or a Taxi Service Operator if satisfied that the network/operator can comply with the requirements of the Road Transport (Public Passenger Services) Regulation 2002
.
From 1 March 2002 all Taxi Network Providers and Taxi Service Operators must be accredited to operate within the ACT. A Taxi Network Provider or a Taxi Service Operator may be an individual or a group of persons, or a body corporate.

Taxi Licences
Under the Road Transport (Public Passenger) Regulations 2002, all vehicles used as a taxi must be appropriately licensed under regulation 82.
A person may transfer a taxi licence (other than a restricted taxi licence) to another person under section 41 of the Road Transport (Public Passenger Services) Act 2001. To transfer a licence the following requirements must be met:
- make an appointment with Public Transport Regulation for the transfer (please call 6207 1423 or 6207 7159);
- on attending Public Transport Regulation the following documents must be supplied:
- sale agreement for taxi licence; and
- drivers licence of each new owner.
- pay the determined fee of $49.00. CHEQUE, MONEY ORDER OR CREDIT CARD (VISA & MASTERCARD) ACCEPTED.
Standards
Under the Road Transport (Public Passenger Services) Regulation 2002, the Road Transport Authority may approve Standards that directly relate to the performance of the taxi industry, and requirements for taximeters and security cameras. These Standards will affect Accredited Taxi Network Providers and Accredited Taxi Service Operators.
