On-Road Cycling

General information

The ACT Government's On-Road Cycling Policy (Word Word 25Kb), is committment to the promotion of safe cycling for better health and as a sustainable transport alternative. Provision of a dedicated space for cyclists on this significant route may send a message to all that Canberra is a cycle-friendly city and is leading the way in promoting alternative sustainable transport means.

Green pavement treatment

Green pavement treatment has been implemented at key locations in Canberra. Green has been adopted as the colour for pavement marking of cycle facilities in New South Wales, South Australia and Queensland.

In the ACT green pavement will be used to improve the visibility and legibility of on-road cycle lanes at areas of potential high risk. Use of the treatment is very selective due to the high cost of installation. The coloured treatment material is not paint but an acrylate / stone aggregate composite. This is important in terms of both wear and skid resistance and the product has similar wearing and skid resistance properties to asphalt.
