2007 Sustainability Community Attitudes Study
In 2007, Territory and Municipal Services undertook research on the ACT community’s attitudes, practices and awareness associated with sustainability.
The study was conducted to assist the ACT Government assess the effectiveness of its current sustainability education , awareness and rebate programs and identify possible opportunities to improve future services and programs.
The research comprised three focus groups and 1,000 structure telephone surveys, which took place during late July and early 2007.
The survey addressed:
- level of concern for, and importance of environment/sustainability issues;
- behaviours and practices related to:
-
- looking after the local environment;
- water use and efficiency;
- waste minimisation and recycling;
- sustainable transport;
- reducing energy use; and
- responsible pet ownership;
- why people undertake actions to support the environment/sustainability;
- barriers to taking action to support the environment/sustainability;
- appliances and products in households that support sustainability;
- views on climate change;
- awareness of ACT Government rebates, programs and strategies;
- participation in ACT Government rebates and programs; and
- preferred sources of information about environmental issues.
