drumMuster Program
Thiess Services receive empty chemical containers on behalf of the drumMuster program at the Mitchell Resource Recovery Centre, located on Flemington Road, Mitchell.
Background
Various local government, farming and veterinary associations have together developed a program known as drumMuster to provide an environmentally responsible way of collecting and disposing of eligible rigid metal and plastic containers. The users of these chemicals have been paying a 4 cent levy per litre or kilogram on non-returnable chemical containers over 1 litre or kilogram in content. This levy funds the drumMuster program, therefore all costs incurred in the setting up of a drumMuster collection by a council or local government is reimbursed by the program.

drumMuster Container Collection
Thiess Services currently runs the chemical container collection service at the Mitchell Resource Recovery Centre, Flemington Road, Mitchell . By appointment, clients can bring out their triple rinsed and punctured containers on the first Thursday of every month between the hours of 10 am and 12 noon. An authorised drumMuster officer will be on site to inspect all containers to ensure compliance.
Containers bearing the drumMuster logo are accepted at drumMuster collections. Thiess Services will also accept non-drumMuster containers which will be dealt with separately and recycled. They must be triple rinsed and punctured prior to delivery to the Mitchell site.
The purpose of drumMuster is to reduce the amount of non-returnable farm chemical container waste generated in the rural and business industries by:
- reducing the amount of packaging which produces such waste;
- increasing the reuse of single trip containers;
- increasing the recycling of these containers for materials and energy recovery;
- developing and implementing collection and recycling strategies for these containers; and
- developing new formulation and packaging technologies for delivering and applying farm chemicals.
For containers returned as part of the drumMuster program please fill out the drumMuster Form (
PDF 38Kb) and contact Russell Cairns.
