Food and Green Waste Advice and Information

NOWaste_Logo

Garden waste can be dropped off for free or a nominal fee at locations around Canberra where it is composted into valuable products such as fertilisers.

Having a compost heap or worm farm for your food scraps is a simple but effective way to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.  When organic waste breaks down in a landfill (an anaerobic environment) it releases the greenhouse gas methane as a by-product.  Composting and worm farming can stop this from happening as well as providing you with nutrient-rich material for your garden.
