Dog Exercise Areas
Where can I take my dog?
Exercise is an important part of your dog's physical and mental well being. The ACT Government provides both on-leash and off-leash opportunities to exercise your dog.
To ensure greater accessibility to the general public, the Dog Control Areas are clearly defined on maps.
The maps are also available for viewing at ACT Libraries and all Canberra Connect Shop-fronts.
Where can I exercise my dog off-leash in public?
Dog Exercise Areas - are areas where dogs in the control of their keepers or carers may be exercised off-leash.
It is important that even while off-leash, dogs are under the control of the owner at all times. This is especially important as dog exercise areas are not limited for use of dogs and their owners, being used by other members of the public for recreational purposes.
Where can't I take my dog?
Dog Prohibited Areas - are areas identified by signage where no dogs are permitted (except for assistance dogs with permits).
Where can I exercise my dog on-leash?
Dog On-leash Areas - are areas not otherwise designated as Dog Exercise or Dog Prohibited Areas, where dogs may be exercised but must remain on the leash.

- Uriarra Crossing East;
- Uriarra Crossing West;
- Swamp Creek;
- The western riverbank of Point Hut Crossing recreational area. Please note that dogs must be on-leash on the eastern riverbank of Point Hut Crossing.
