Lost, Found, Impounded and Wanted Dogs

Impounded Dogs

View dogs currently at the DAS Shelter (click on the dog icon to view photo).

These are dogs have been located roaming or straying by Domestic Animals Services Rangers or that have been handed in by members of the public. Impounded dogs are held for 7 days whilst DAS try to locate the owner or to allow time for owner to come forward and claim their missing dog. Unclaimed dogs maybe sold or euthanasia by DAS after this 7 day period.

Note to Owners:
DAS will only be able to contact you if you have kept your contact details current. If you wish to update your contact details or you have moved please email DAS with details. Remember to provide your dog/s name, registration number and your full name in the email.

All dogs impounded at the DAS Shelter must be claimed in writing and ownership proven before released. All dogs must be registered at time of release from the DAS Shelter. An impoundment fee applies depending on the history of your dog plus a daily fee applies if the dog is not claimed within the first 24 hours. DAS fees.

All dogs must be micro chipped prior to release from DAS Shelter in accordance with the Domestic Animasl Act 2000.

All dogs released from the DAS shelter must comply with de-sexing requirement in accordance with the Domestic Animals Act 2000, within 28 days of their release.

Purchasing a Dog From the DAS Shelter.

Steps to purchasing a dog from the DAS Shelter

  1. Attend the DAS Shelter on Mugga Lane, Symonston and view dogs.
  2. If you like a dog then get to know it better by asking staff if can play with the dog in the exercise yard. You can also make arrangements have your dog meet its potential new family member at the DAS Shelter.
  3. After 7 days DAS may sell a dog if unclaimed by its owner.
  4. Dog at Shelter over 3 days – any person who has viewed the dog may place a deposit on the dog. This deposit is taken on a first in basis. The deposit is refundable if the dog’s owner claims the dog within the 7 days.
  5. Collect the dog on the date assigned by DAS staff and finalise outstanding fees.

Sale price includes vaccination, micro chiping and registrations plus the sale price. Sexually entire dogs sale price includes a voucher to have the dog de-sexed at the RSPCA.

Lost Dogs

Steps to take if you have lost at dog:

  1. Firstly view dogs currently at the DAS Shelter, remember to click on the dog icon to view the photo. If unsure then attend the DAS Shelter to view dogs.
  2. Also check the DAS Found Dog list as a member of the public may have found your dog and be hold it for you to collect from them.
  3. Also check with RSPCA and Vet Clinics in your area.
  4. If unsuccessful then you can list you dog’s details on the DAS Lost List, this will enable members of the public to contact you directly if they find your missing dog. List details now by clicking on Report Dog Missing.

If your dog is found then please advise DAS so that your dog’s details can be removed from the lost list.

Found Dogs

Action to be taken if you have found a dog:

If you have found a dog and it has a registration tag on then please contact 13 22 81 and provide them with the registration number. Attempts will be made to contact the owner and make arrangement for them to collection the dog from you.

  1. Check the DAS Lost List . The owner may have reported the dog lost. If listed you can then contact the owner and arrange for them to collect it.
  2. List the dogs details on the DAS Found list so that the owner can contact you directly.
  3. If the dog is not wearing a registration tag or id disc then you may:
    - take the dog to a Vet Clinic where its owner maybe identified if dog is micro-chipped.
    - take the dog to the DAS Shelter on Mugga Lane, Symonston.
    - After hours dogs can be left at the drop off pens at the front of the DAS facility.
