Dog Droppings
Why should I pick up my dog's droppings?
Dog faeces potentially carry diseases that can be transmitted to other animals and to humans.
Dogs are allowed access to many public places. When dog owners do not clean up their dog's droppings, they impinge on the right of other Canberrans to enjoy these public places safely and hygienically.
Where should I dispose of my dog's droppings?
Dog droppings can be wrapped and deposited in any Government provided green topped wheelie bin.
Are there specific bins to dispose dog's droppings in?
No. All animal faecal matter may be wrapped and deposited in any of the Government provided green topped wheelie bins.
Will 'pooper scooper' equipment be provided?
No. The responsibility to provide faecal collection equipment remains with the owner of the dog.
Will I receive a fine if I don't pick up my dog's droppings?
Yes. You can be fined for not picking up and disposing of your dog’s droppings. On-the-spot fines of $50.00 can be issued by authorising officers. In addition, you can also receive an on-the-spot fine if you are not carrying appropriate equipment to collect your dog's droppings. The fine for not carrying collection equipment is $50.00.
