Tuggeranong Schoolhouse
Tuggeranong Schoolhouse is one of the earliest schoolhouses in the area, providing the first formal schooling to the children of the Tharwa/Tuggeranong Valley and contributing to the social history of Canberra’s early settlement. It provided the initial schooling for Professor James McGee who became one of the worlds leading scientists and a pioneer in TV and nuclear physics research. The building is representative of rural architecture of the 1880’s. Tuggeranong Schoolhouse is entered in the Register of the National Estate and the ACT Heritage Places Register.
Tuggeranong Schoolhouse is available for viewing by school and community groups by appointment.
