Duntroon Dairy

The Duntroon Dairy was constructed sometime before September 1832 and is thought to be the oldest existent building in the ACT. A two room free stone lime mortared masonry building, the Duntroon Dairy reflects a way of life on a then remote pastoral property where self-sufficiency was a requirement.

The place provided the facility for the production of dairy products for the Duntroon Estate in ways which are no longer practised, and evidence of which is rare. The building's construction and siting is distinctive, well thought out, and at the time, advanced in terms of technology and approach.

In December 2003 funding was awarded for a package of conservation, enhancement and presentation works at Duntroon Dairy and Mount Pleasant. Since that time, work has been progressing. In September 2004, Chief Minister John Stanhope unveiled the new interpretive signage at the Duntroon Dairy Open Day.
