2010-2011 ACT Heritage Grants Program

Applications for the 2010-2011 ACT Heritage Grants Program are now being called for.

The Program will provide $294,000 to identify and carry out projects that promote and conserve our local heritage.

The ACT Heritage Grants Program is an annual funding program administered by the ACT Government to assist the community in working to conserve and promote the heritage of the ACT.

Priorities for this funding round include:

  • Projects that prepare to celebrate Canberra’s centenary in 2013 or other centenary events;
  • Community projects that promote heritage through education (of all ages), tourism, interpretation of heritage sites and events;
  • Aboriginal heritage projects initiated by or involving the local Aboriginal community;
  • Conservation Management Plans e.g. studies of particular places (including Aboriginal places) entered in the ACT Heritage Register;
  • Conservation works on places or objects entered in the ACT Heritage Register; and
  • Projects that fill a thematic gap in the ACT Heritage Register e.g. 20th century heritage, rural and contact history, natural heritage and multicultural heritage.

Generally, funded projects are under $10,000 and have some financial or in-kind support from applicants as a demonstration of their commitment to the project. Where a profit may be made from a project, the applicant should provide matching funding.

The Minister for Heritage makes the final decision on the grants funded, based on advice from the ACT Heritage Council.

2009-2010 ACT Heritage Grants

Successful recipients of the 2009-2010 ACT Heritage Grants were announced on 1 September 2009 at the heritage listed Canberra Services Club in Manuka by the Chief Minister and Minister for the Arts and Heritage Jon Stanhope.

An allocation of $342,170 was awarded to 28 projects to celebrate, promote and record heritage in the ACT. Among the 28 successful ACT Heritage Grants projects are three community projects that foster effective partnerships to conserve ACT’s unique heritage. These are the 2009 Celebrate Heritage festival; the continuation of the Heritage Advisory Services which provides assistance to owners of heritage properties; and the Heritage Emergency Fund. Please see below for a list of the successful projects below.
