Urban Tree Protection in the ACT
Find information about tree protection relating to trees on leased land and how to apply to undertake a tree damaging activity in the ACT. Tree damaging activities include tree removal, major pruning, lopping and groundwork near a regulated tree. Approval is required for all tree damaging activities for (regulated) trees within Tree Management Precincts.

The Tree Protection Act 2005 was passed by the Legislative Assembly on 22 September 2005. It has has two main components:
- ACT Tree Register—To protect exceptional trees valued for their heritage, landscape or scientific importance.
- Tree Management Precincts—To provide protection for the urban forest where it is most needed.
