Find information about tree protection relating to trees on leased land and how to apply to undertake a tree damaging activity in the ACT. Tree damaging activities include tree removal, major pruning, lopping, groundwork near a regulated tree.

The Tree Protection Act 2005 was passed by the Legislative Assembly on 22 September 2005. The new legislation has two main components:
- ACT Tree Register—To protect exceptional trees valued for their heritage, landscape or scientific importance.
- Tree Management Precincts—To provide protection for the urban forest where it is most needed.
The Act commenced on 29 March 2006. Currently, we are in a transition phase in which all suburbs will be Tree Management Precincts to allow a survey for trees to populate the tree register.
