Fuel Management
Bushfire fuels (ie leaf litter, twigs, bark, shrubs and grasses) build up naturally over time and fuel management, or fuel reduction, refers to the reduction or removal of these combustible materials through various means including mechanical, chemical, biological or fire
TAMS implements an extensive onging bushfire fuel management program. Fuel management can reduce fire behaviour and severity, improve fire fighter safety, increase the probability of suppression and reduce the impacts of bushfires on natural and built assets.
The three means for managing bushfire fuels are reduction, removal or conversion to a less flammable type:
