Print Page
The Print Map Page will appear as a separate browser window when you activate the Print tool
from the Standard tools.

Printing maps from a web mapping application is complex as there are so many variables to consider such as map scale, labels, background imagery, resolution, client printer types, and supporting details such as legends, overview maps, titles etc. Most of these have been addressed with this application, however the printing of the map legend may result in an unexpected output. The Asset Information Systems Unit is looking at options to overcome this including the creation of separate pdf legends. For the time being it is suggested that unless your map legend is short, it is best not to include it in your map.
Maps are printed on a printer accessible to you from the computer you are using to access ACT Locate. In this way printing from ACT Locate is no different than printing from any other application that you run on your computer. The preference is to print using a colour printer, however colour maps will also print in grey on most standard printers. As the dialog above states, the ACT Locate printing facility will create your print map in a separate browser window which you will then need to print as you would any other browser page. It is also possible to use the standard browser printing from the Map Page of ACT Locate, and this is one alternative to creating maps with a legend, particularly if printed to an A3 colour printer. With this approach you can also include details in the Information Window .
The standard print method for ACT Locate is managed by the browser window above. Here you can:
- Enter the title you wish to give you map;
- Chose Portrait or Landscape layouts;
- Chose either A4 or A3 size paper (depends on your printer capability);
- Print in either 96 dpi, 150 dpi or 200 dpi resolutions;
- Print in the current scale, just the current map view or chose from one of the map scales provided;
- Include the Overview Map in your printout; and/or
- Include the Legend (but see the note in italics above).
As the dialog states, when you have made your selections you need to left-click on the ‘Create Map Page’ button in the Print ACT Locate browser window.
This will generate a second new browser window, which approximately represents your map when it is printed. To continue you will need to use the print option in the browser header and make any specific selection such as printer type, print quality (Draft, Good, Best etc.), paper size and paper orientation.
