Overview Map

When the Map is displayed for the first time the Overview Map is visible by default. Its purpose is to help you locate where your current map view is relative to the full extent of the ACT. This is indicated by a red box drawn on the Overview Map. The size of this box will vary with the zoom level. For example if the whole of the ACT is viewable on the main map then the red box in the Overview Map will appear as a frame around the smaller ACT area as in the image below.

As you zoom in, the location and extent of your current view is recorded by this red box in the Overview Map.

It is also possible to use the Overview Map to change your location. With either the Zoom In, Zoom Out or Pan tools selected, place the mouse cursor on the Overview Map. You will notice that it will change to a hand symbol. Place the point of the finger of this hand on your new location and left-click the mouse. The red box in the Overview map will move (at the current scale) to this location, and the main map will display the detailed view of this part of the ACT.

If you no longer require the Overview Map you can toggle it off by a left-click on the Overview map toggle tool  . A left-click on the tool will reinstate the Overview Map.
