ACTION Network 2012 

The ACT Government is committed to building a better bus service. A number of changes have been identified to improve the ACTION bus network for 2012.

Libraries ACT Customer Satisfaction Survey 

Libraries ACT aims to continually improve the way in which we deliver services to the Canberra community. We asked the community to tell us how we can improve the quality of the services provided by completing an online survey.

Woden Library - social value heritage assesment survey 

The ACT Government invited the Canberra community to have its say on the social value of the Woden Library to assist with the development of a Heritage Conservation Plan for the site.

The Woden Library first opened its doors to the Canberra community in 1977 and has been listed on the ACT Heritage Register for its architectural design and importance to the Woden community. It is important that the Plan both respects the heritage values of the facility while enabling it to meet the current and future needs of the community.

Bus facility improvements in Gungahlin

Canberrans were invited to provide feedback on the proposed options for bus stop upgrades and bus layovers facilities in the Gungahlin Town Centre area.

As part of its commitment to improving bus services along the major transport corridors, the ACT Government is investigating options for bus stop upgrades along Hibberson Street and the construction of bus priority measures on Flemington Road between Sandford Street and Wells Station Drive.

A community drop-in session was held on Friday 26 August 2011 to give people the opportunity to view the preferred options, provide feedback and ask questions about the project.

Real Time Passenger Information System for ACTION buses

The ACT Government has committed $12 million for the design and roll out of a Real Time Passenger Information System (RTPIS).

The implementation of a RTPIS will improve access to public transport through electronic media channels such as online, on screens at major bus stations and bus stops and smart phones.

Consultation with the community is essential to ensure that the system meets the needs of all commuters and help to inform the priorities for the design and implementation of a real time passenger information system for ACTION buses.

Fetherston Gardens Concept Plan Consultation

The ACT Government has commissioned RedBox Design Group Landscape Architects to prepare a Concept Plan for future development of Fetherston Gardens in Weston as a public park.

Following community consultation in August 2011 a draft Concept Plan is currently being developed.

There will be opportunities to provide feedback on the draft Concept Plan during the public exhibition period in 2012.

Canberra Avenue Bus Priority Measures and Barton Bus Station Feasability Study

The ACT Govenrment has commenced a study to investigate options for a major bus station in Barton and bus priority measures along the Canberra Avenue Corridor, which includes Canberra Avenue (from Harman to Hume Circle), Wentworth Avenue and Brisbane Avenue. 'bus priority' refers to infrastructure that supports bus travel such as dedicated bus lanes and bus priority at intersections.

We are seeking input from the community to assist us with this project. By better understanding how you travel and what your public transport expectations are, we can work towards delivering infrastructure that best serves users, pedestrians, cyclists, road users and the wider Canberra community.

Development of a Master Plan for Jerrabomberra Wetlands

The ACT Government is conducting community consultation on a Master Plan to guide future development of the Jerrabomberra Wetlands Nature Reserve.  The consultation will include face to face meetings and focus groups with key stakeholders and a public exhibition period with an on-site public information session.

Consultation with key stakeholders, including local Aboriginal groups and neighbouring businesses and residents, occured in July and August 2011. Feedback is informing the development of a draft Master Plan. 

The draft master plan will be released in early 2012. During the public exhibition period in 2012, the draft Master Plan will be available online and in shopfronts and public libraries for community-wide comments and feedback.

2011-12 Play Space Renewal Program

The ACT Government is pleased to announce the renewal of ten play spaces across the ACT in the 2011-12 and 2012-13 financial years. The Playground Safety Program is an ongoing capital works program that renews ACT play spaces in line with Australian and ACT Standards and best practice contemporary play space design.

Northbourne Avenue bus priority measures and Dickson major bus station feasibility study

The ACT Government is conducting a study to identify upgrades and improvements to the Northbourne Avenue corridor, including bus priority, cycle lanes and pedestrian access.

 

Currently more than 50,000 people travel on Northbourne Avenue daily and this is increasing with the growth of Gungahlin. This project will identify options for making this travel more efficient, while ensuring the boulevard landscape characteristics of this major entry to the national capital are properly considered.

 

The study will cover the section of Northbourne Avenue from Flemington Road to the City. It will also investigate the option of a new bus station in Dickson to increase the uptake of public transport.
