New traffic arrangements proposed for Curtin

In response to community feedback, the ACT Government is proposing to implement traffic calming measures for McCulloch Street in Curtin. Proposed measures aim to address local residents concerns over the potential for an increase in traffic flow in this area due to the Molonglo development as well as existing traffic volumes and speeds on this residential street.

During 2011 officers from Roads ACT met with local residents on three separate occasions to explore a number of options to improve safety in the area. A preferred approach has now been determined which is open for public comment.

The proposed changes for McCulloch Street in Curtin include:

  • speed humps on approaches to the roundabout;
  • raised platforms with a marked pedestrian crossing;
  • a reduced speed limit of 50 kilometres per hour;
  • traffic island at the intersection of McCulloch Street and Dunstan Street;
  • new signage to reflect the changed traffic conditions; and
  • on-street parking.

The proposed changes will not only slow down traffic through McCulloch Street but will improve safety for pedestrians crossing the road.
