ACT Disabled Parking Review 2007

Background

Roads ACT manages all ACT roads, bridges, cycle paths, pedestrian footpaths, traffic signal and street lighting assets to ensure a safe, efficient and effective transport network for the people of the ACT. Traffic Management and Safety, a section within Roads ACT, monitors the safety and operating conditions of the existing transport system and develops and implements traffic management measures where appropriate.

Traffic Management and Safety has identified the need to review the disabled parking studies undertaken by Roads ACT in 2002, as part of its ongoing role in reviewing the parking situation in the ACT.

How the Review Process Will Work

The sites for this review considers mobility parking facilities within all ACT Town Centres and Group Centres. Only Town and Group Centres with over 100 car spaces will be included in the review.

The review will include:

  1. Review and update the 2002 study (ACT Disabled Parking Review – Maunsell June 2002)
  2. Audit local shopping centres with a view to assess:
    • Whether the current provisions meet the national requirements.
    • Whether the current provisions are appropriately located.
    • Whether the design parameters (size, lines and signs) of the current provisions meet requirements.
    • Whether the current provisions meet community needs.
    • Whether the ratio of disabled spaces needs to be increased to take account of demographic changes (including the ageing of population).

Submissions for the online survey have now closed.

Thank you for your submissions. We are not able to respond to individuals, but we value your feedback and information on the outcomes of the review will be posted on this website as they come to hand.
