May 2007
This weeks images are of Wayne—Park worker at the Cotter Depot and Graham—Ranger in Charge (Rural North).

Handrails were required to be fabricated and installed for a pedestrian bridge near the playground on Cotter Avenue, a popular recreational venue for Canberra residents and visitors. This kind of work has usually been undertaken by an external contractor, however, our new work arrangements enabled us to draw on the metal skills of the workshop staff at the Cotter Depot. Our field staff have skills that are very valuable, and we have made substantial savings by using the valuable skills that our field staff have to offer. The new magnetic drill that was acquired as part of the project will be a great time saver and permanent resource for them as well.
The handrail fabrication is almost close to completion and installation is next. The job is expected to be completed by the end of June 2007.
