This week’s photos are of Rudi and Nik who work as City Rangers for TAMS. They took part in the Butt Free City launch—Enforcement Day.

City Rangers are an integral part of the making our city clean and this week was no different! The City Rangers were a hit with smokers around the City as they approached them to reinforce the message of the Butt Free City Campaign as part of Enforcement Day. The City Rangers took this as an opportunity to inform smokers the environmental consequences of littering cigarette butts and what potential fines they could incurr if caught littering cigarette butts.
It is important that all smokers Butt it, then Bin It!

This week’s photos were taken by Margaret Kalms from Parks, Conservation and Lands.

A Red Belly Black Snake was found under the hubcap of a family’s car in the Jamison Centre car park.
Feeling very distressed and unsure of what to do, the family signalled the help of Margaret Kalms, Asset Officer for Parks, Lands and Conservation, who happened to be on site and in uniform! Margaret did an excellent job of keeping the family and their young children calm and at a safe distance from the snake.
The owner of the car called Canberra Connect who sent out the appropriate person to remove the snake from the car. Initially the snake did not want to assist, and as it was eased from one wheel it sneakily slid into another wheel.
After much prodding from a professional and skilful Ranger, it finally slid to the ground and was put into a sack. The snake was released without harm in the Pinnacle Nature Reserve.
What an adventure!

This week’s photos were taken when Nikki who is the TAMS Media Manager in the Community Engagement and Communications Team went out to the Sphagnum Moss Bogs in the Namadgi National Park.

How exciting, flying into Namadgi National Park by helicopter

What a view!

Sphagnum Moss Bog restorations.... they look like band aids from up above.
Sphagnum Moss Bogs are important for Canberra's water supply and habitat for species such as the Corroboree Frog.
Recently TAMS staff coordinated a media exercise promoting our work on the the restoration of the Spahgnum Moss Bogs in the Namadgi National Park. This exercise resulted in excellent press coverage and our efforts have been praised by the National Parks Association (NPA) of the ACT.
The ongoing work conducted by Parks, Conservation and Lands staff at Namadgi National Park has resulted in stabilisation and substantial improvements to the Bogs as well as reducing the risk of further deterioration.
Good press coverage! But most of all great job done by all on the restoration.

This week’s photos were taken of Margaret and David Rymer of Higgins, winners of the TAMS Canberra Show Competition prize.
Margaret entered the TAMS Giveaway Goodies Competition at the TAMS display at the Canberra Show which was part of the ACT Government display.
With the help of her husband David, she answered five questions relating to TAMS information presented at our display. Winning the prize was decided by being the first entry drawn out of an Earth Maker compost bin (one of the prizes), with all five answers correct. The prize was valued up to $1000.
Margaret and David are delighted with the goodies they have received and thank TAMS for the opportunity to be in the competition. They are looking forward to visiting the TAMS stand this time next year at the Canberra Show.
We may see you there!

This week’s photos where taken out at Canberra Stadium the day before the Crusty Demons arrived for the 'Unleash Hell' Regional Australia Tour here in Canberra.

This is the stadium before they started work.
I think it's going to be a long day.

Nearly there.

All ready for action.
On Saturday 16th February, the Crusty Demons came to Canberra to kick off the 'Unleash Hell' Regional Australia Tour.
The show was held at the Canberra Stadium. It took many hours to get the ground ready for them.
The show featured the best line up of all time with seven of the world's top ten riders including world number one, Nate Adams. All sorts of tricks performed including some really difficult stunts.
Canberra Stadium will now be getting ready for the 2008 Super 14's and NRL competitions.
Why not visit the Canberra Stadium website to see what's coming up?
Who knows, after this show we may have some Canberra kids become budding Crusty Demons!
