What Can I Put In My Bins?

What can go in the yellow (recycling) bin or recycling hopper.

Please place these items in the recycling bin or hopper:

• All rigid plastic containers
• All newspaper and cardboard, paper packaging, junk mail, printing and writing paper, envelopes etc.
• All glass bottles and jars
• Steel cans, aluminium cans, trays and foil
• All cartons

DO NOT place these items in the recycling bin or hopper:

• Plastic bags or film plastics
• Disposable nappies
• Motor oil
• Syringes
• Crockery, drinking glasses
• Light globes, window or mirror glass
• Car parts
• Kitchen and food scraps
• Clothes
• Any other wastes

What can go in the green (garbage) bin or garbage hopper.

Each household is supplied with a 140-litre green lidded wheelie bin for domestic garbage. Some newer bins are shorter than the original bins, but they have the same capacity. Multi-Unit Developments are supplied with a hopper for garbage. What to put in your garbage bin or hopper (PDF 726KB).

Please only place household waste that cannot be recycled into the garbage bin or hopper.

DO NOT place the following in your garbage bin or hopper:

• Recyclable materials
• Garden waste
• Rocks and soil
• Hot ashes
• Commercial, industrial or building waste
• Dead animals
• Solvents and oil
